If you're just joining us now, Welcome! Take a look at the previous posts at www.aetherguardian.com to catch up on the conversation!
Let's dive into our final character, Diana. Don't worry, no spoilers here!
One, What does Diana want? I think it's pretty clear from the story, that she wants to be number one. She's obviously extremely competitive and wants to be second-to-none. On top of that, she wants EVERYONE to know that she is number 1. Book 2 and 3 will share more about why she strives for this goal.
Two, What does she need? Remember, this is what the character needs in order to grow. Whether or not they choose to accept this need or strive toward achieving this need is up to the character. Diana needs to accept that there will always be people who are better/faster/stronger/ more skilled than her. Lady Elise's skills always seem to make that clear.
Three, How will Diana change to get what she wants? That is still to be seen for Diana. I've got a very interesting path I want Diana to follow and this question is going to be extremely important for her character arc as the story continues. Sorry can't say much more than that ;)
Four, What lie does she believe? Diana believes that if she can just be in the number 1 spot, then she will finally achieve everything she's ever wanted - that she'll finally be on top and prove herself.
Five, What truth must she accept? She needs to accept that inner peace and self-worth do not come from your achievements, but rather an acceptance of who you are as a person. It's not what you do that brings value, it's who you are that makes you valuable. She must realize that she will never live up to everyone's expectations.
Six, What is her ghost/motivation? Sorry can't tell much here either. But I can say that she has had some intense expectations placed upon her that she feels compelled to live up to. You'll just have to read book 2 when it comes out ;)
What about her character dimensions?
Well, she's obviously extremely skilled, but she hates putting in the work. She simply expects success to come to her because she feels she deserves it. In an ironic twist, she hates working together with Cecilia, but must partner with her if she is to reach her own goals. She is very stubborn, yet she will receive guidance - even if with reluctance - when needed in order to gain a new skill.
And that's the end of the major characters in Aether Guardian. Over the next few weeks, I'd like to share more about the important questions and structures I used to write this story. Stick with us!
